Basic Function

HollyFrontier Corporation in Anacortes, WA is seeking a Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer. The Rotating Equipment Reliabilty Engineer is responsible for providing technical engineering support leading to reliable and safe operations of plant rotating equipment. The technical support will be in providing mechanical engineering support for process plant rotating equipment, primarily focusing on pump and compressor systems.

Job Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Operations and Maintenance Support
    • Primary resources for machinery related technical support
    • Primary resources for Bently Nevada monitoring equipment, compressor surge control systems, and turbine speed control systems
    • Provide machinery related technical training material to Operations & Machinists, including procedures
    • Support maintenance with critical equipment repair strategies
  • Project Support
    • Primary resource for machinery capital budget and Asset Master planning development
    • Develop machinery related project business cases and primary resource for projects involving machinery
    • Support machinery related projects during development, execution and commissioning
  • Turnaround Support
    • Develop machinery plans for turnaround activities and provide work scope justifications using risk based assessments

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience

A minimum of five years of progressive work experience in a specific engineering discipline. 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Professional Engineer registration is preferred.  Refinery or petrochemical industry experience preferred. Some or all of FCC, CCR, Alky, Sulfur unit, Delayed Coking, Lubes Processing and hydrotreating experience is preferred for Chemical discipline depending on assignment.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline is required. 

Required Skills

Ability to manage a project is essential.  Working knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically.  Ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential.  Ability to communicate effectively with others, strong verbal communication skills, advanced level of reading and writing, ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations.  Advanced ability to work effectively with multiple groups throughout the refinery.  Strong spreadsheet and word processing applications knowledge; strong interpersonal, time-management and organizational skills; ability to provide training to multiple groups on a variety of applicable assigned discipline topics.  Knowledge of various process hazard analysis and root cause analysis methodologies is required for Process Safety Engineering discipline.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Working knowledge of and experience with engineering software is preferred.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

May be responsible for the supervision of personnel as well as contractors.

Work Conditions

Office and plant based with up to 10% travel required.  Subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceiving color differences,  required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid state driver’s license and proof of insurance required.  Job conditions may require making precise hand and finger movements, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
