HollyFrontier Artesia PTU LLC is seeking a Superintendent, PTU.  This position, located in Artesia, NM, ensures safe production and environmental compliance across shifts for the entire Pretreatment Unit (PTU) facility.  Provides strong leadership in increasing bench strength through whole organization.  Ensures process plans, operating targets and maintenance plans are being met across all shifts.  Effectively communicates and works short and long term opportunities and problem resolution with PTU Manager to ensure safe production and unit optimization.  Drives consistent adoption of Operations Excellence initiatives across all operations personnel.

 

This position is not eligible for International Relocation Program benefits.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Responsible for safe, reliable, and environmentally compliant production across all operating areas.
  • Optimizes production team’s performance including stewarding development of strong bench strength in technical, business, leadership, and decision making skills.
  • Completes budget forecasting for area of responsibility and provides routine reporting of budget compliance, including mitigation plans to meet budget.  Creates annual budget for area.
  • Verifies timely completion of incident investigations, communicates results to shift organization as appropriate, and ensures action items completed.
  • Reviews ongoing monthly production versus plan, communicates gaps and champions steps to meet plan.
  • Develops and communicates monthly stewardship reporting on area performance metrics.
  • Works across departments to proactively develop strategies to meet annual production plans.
  • Drives annual capital project development plans for operating areas.
  • Collaborates with RDU group as needed.
  • Ensures daily operating targets and reporting updated and appropriate for safe production plans.
  • Leads daily production meeting and confirms follow-up completed for risks and threats.
  • Proactively seeks opportunities to train shift organization in overarching business impact of unit operation, develops bench strength through technical and soft skill coaching.
  • Ensures decision making done at the right level in the shift organization.  Verifies with shift supervision growth in unit level ability and accountability to make “right level” decisions, creating feedback loop of effectiveness of those decisions.

 

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 8 years of refinery or renewable fuels operations background, general knowledge of maintenance protocol, and strong understanding of refinery unit interrelationships.  Supervisory experience relative to oilseed processing or fuels production operation.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Experience with oilseeds extraction and/or renewable fuels processing is preferred. Experience working in an agricultural, food, or chemical plant is preferred.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

A minimum of a High School Diploma is required.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Ability to constructively direct and drive quality work from a number of resources, in the absence of having direct supervisory responsibility of the resources needed. 
  • Ability to optimize production through encouraging organization to identify and solve problems related to the operation of our assets within assigned area.
  • Ability to handle high visibility projects and activities, high pressure situations, and long hours while maintaining a positive and constructive attitude.
  • Exceptional team player with ability to effectively communicate with others through written and verbal communication. 
  • Ability to constructively interact with all levels of staff including engineers, operators, shift and maintenance personnel. 
  • Intermediate computer skills, intermediate reading and writing skills and the ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations. 
  • Strength in developing staff’s troubleshooting, technical, and soft skills.

 

SUPERVISORY/MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the direct supervision of up to 5 employees, indirect supervision of up to 75 employees and/or management of 3rd-party contractors.

 

WORK CONDITIONS:

Office and Refinery/Industrial environment based with up to 5% travel by land and air is required. Warehouse/plant environment, out-of-doors, and driver based environment, including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, and rotating equipment. Subject to all weather, temperatures, and varying road conditions. Subject to occasional weekend and after hour call-outs, and working in confined spaces.
