Title:  Payroll Tax Analyst III

Basic Function

Administers and maintains payroll tax compliance in SAP Payroll system. Serves as liaison with ADP Tax to ensure the accurate and timely reporting of payroll taxes.

Job Duties

  • Liaises with ADP Tax to resolve payroll tax filing, reporting and system issues.
  • Partners with IT to maintain system integrity as it relates to the payroll tax configuration.
  • Manages ADP Smart Compliance for payroll tax reporting.
  • Serves as key partner with ADP Tax to review and resolve agency tax notices.
  • Works in collaboration with Accounting Team to research and resolve all accounting issues related to payroll tax.
  • Reconciles quarterly and year-end wages and taxes for 940, 941, W-2’s, State and Local Returns.
  • Maintains system wage limits and state and local tax rates.
  • Serves as a subject matter for the proper tax treatment of wage payments, and conducts tax research to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local tax regulations.
  • Conducts SAP BSI TUBS testing to maintain and update payroll tax changes within SAP payroll system.
  • Serves as primary contact for payroll tax reporting and internal / external payroll tax auditing.
  • Collaborate with Payroll Operations to implement and maintain quarterly payroll tax reconciliation processes.
  • Develop and maintain payroll tax reports to assist with the accurate reporting and filing of Federal, State and Local payroll taxes.
  • Process Federal W4’s, and State withholding forms as needed and update SAP payroll system in compliance with Federal and State withholding guidelines.
  • Manage and execute year-end checklist for payroll tax reporting.
  • Provides customer service support for employee level payroll tax inquiries and takes the appropriate action to correct employee level tax errors whenever necessary.
  • Provides Canadian Tax support for year-end T4 reporting, Provincial Workman’s Compensation payments, Ontario Health Tax reporting, and Quebec Source Deductions reporting.

A minimum of five years of experience working in a multi-state Payroll Tax role and advanced knowledge of Federal, State & Local reporting regulations and guidelines.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, accounting, or related field is required or a High School Diploma or equivalent with related work experience in lieu of the four year degree or a combination of education and work experience are required.

Required Skills

Working knowledge with SAP Payroll system and ADP Smart Compliance. Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Excel, which includes but is not limited to the use of formulas, v-look up, and other functions. Intermediate mathematical, reading, writing and problem solving skills, organizational and time management skills, analytical and detail oriented, and the ability to effectively communicate with others through written and verbal communication. The ability to conduct payroll tax research using a variety of resources and resolve complicated Federal, State and Local payroll tax issues.

Preferred Experience

SAP HR/Payroll system experience and Certified Payroll Professional preferred.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

None. Provides guidance to others in payroll and in the field as well as may lead the work of others as needed.

Work Conditions

Office based with up to 5% travel by land and air may be required. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions.
